Comparison of Indian and US education system
Education is means by which young minds try to accumulate knowledge, experiences, skills etc. learn t by society. Here I will first talk about High school education system and then at college level.
High school, students in US are never burdened with facts and information. They do not learn much as compared to Indian students. But one good thing about this system is that students there are free to choose some courses. So, what it does is that it helps a dedicated student. Let us say some student is interested in Electrical Engineering, he/she can opt for some courses like basic electronics. In this way a US student is much more prepared than their Indian counterpart when they are about to enter college. In India, till high school, students are given basic knowledge of almost everything but not specifics and they are not allowed to choose subjects. What this leads to is confusion in their mind. They are good in almost all but not perfect in one. So, you can see a Indian student can perform many tasks but not with perfection. But, drawback of US system is that not all students are smart and dedicated enough to do that, a large percentage of students find themselves doing nothing and have not learnt till high school. Only few, dedicated, knows at what they are good and opt that very field at college.
College: Indian students prepare day and night to get into a good college, but it is very easy for US students to get into universities, as there is not much competition. Only few, intelligent and smart, students compete for good universities. But Indian student has given so much effort for entering into good college that a major portion of them finds themselves saturated. They are treated as they have achieved everything in their life but on the other hand a US student takes this as a first step in realizing his ultimate goal. Indian student never give same effort and dedication as he gives for entarance exam. US student is much more curious at this stage (I am talking about only bright students of US, major percentage of their student fraternity is useless ) and is more fresh than Indian students.
So, end result is an average Indian student is at higher level as compared to an average US student but a GEEK of US is much more superior than a so called GEEK here.

Interesting PoV. How would you compare the teaching and lab methods in the US versus those in India?
ReplyDeleteBe careful, don't get suspended ;-)
@Animesh Bhaiya: That will need one more post to describe in detail. But I can say we are lacking nothing in terms of facilities. It's just research attitude of Professors and researchers due to which our universities are still far behind as compared to US and even Chinese universities.
ReplyDeleteI have not been to america, so really can't comment so deep. But by what I've heard, read and seen, I think people out there have freedom, to choose watever they wish, to make mistake or wrong choices, to switch, to study at any age ( my frnd 25 is doing graduation not coz of sm financial prob or nething, jus her wish).
ReplyDeleteWhile here we are bound to follow a track, any deviation and u are the dracula of century, teachers beat us down to make us like them, we have brains but no freedom to think and that is y i think Americans or as such west is doing better.

ReplyDelete@ akku, 1st - orthodox north comprises of minimum of 40% of Indian, if i just go by pure guessing. 2nd - I have never been to south too, but watever I have deduced from southies I met, they seem to be even more prisoned. 3rd - plethora*
ReplyDeleteehhh... I don't know if i agree.
ReplyDeleteyou are making a lot of misleading generalizations... looks lik you havent really interacted with many american students before u came to conclusions....
ReplyDelete@Anil: As in? Give some arguments in support then. You have been there for more than an year now, so you might be knowing this difference better.
ReplyDeleteAlthough both sides / factions in this debate are entitled to their positions, I seriously doubt that any one side is fully or primarily responsible for what is occurring here in our society at this point. It's probably 50/50 or 51/49 at worst. However, I am reasonably sure that continuing to argue and fight about it, without actually addressing the underlying root problems, will not advance anyone's interests. We all should Try Harder.
